Jaipur Literature Festival

I heard about the Jaipur Literature festival for long. every year it is held in the same spot- Diggi Palace Hotel and around the same time- January. I never bothered to attend it, although it was free. For one, it is difficult to take out time from the dairy chorus. One is left with little energy after making a daily shuttle of 100 Km. Moreover, it is already dark by the time we return from work. this year it was different, I did attend the fest from Saturday(23rd evening ) onwards, and I regretted why I did not attend all the years. It was flight of fantasy for the last two days. Like any popular views, I assumed writers workshops are more like serious morooned affairs. My views changed. it is more livid and interesting. With all the world fashion and flashy figures moving around you it was really an enchanting affair. You brush with celebrities and not knowing it. only next day morning papers tell you that so and so attended and when you compare the photos of the locales that you wil...

THE DAY AFTER...... DEEPAWALI

The much awaited Deepawali is gone. Deep into the night, I could hear the noise of the crackers. Perhaps it was three O'clock I could get some sleep. I was up by 5:30 AM, half an hour late. The clouds gone, the sky was clear and Sun basked in his own morning warmth. As expected the roads were littered with burnt paper, rolls and mud pots of crackers etc. The Safaiwala came and did her duties. She cleaned entire colony by 9 AM. We are the luckiest one to have a devoted Safaiwala. I have never seen such a devoted person to her work ever. I am really proud that she is OUR safaiwala. With the help of ubiquitous Jain sahab, cleaned all around our complex. He is another devoted person to cleanliness. Thank God, it is for these persons our complex looks really tidy. By 9:30 we did not feel we had a festival and its aftermath clumsiness. Evening came and the complex gathered to celebrate Goverdhan Pooja. They made clay Goverdhan, moutains, the subjects and son on. It was wonderful communi...

Deepawali

Today is Deepawali. The most important festival for us, our country. It came and brought with it the joys we were all waiting. when I looked at the city line from the top of my house. it was beautiful indeed. the usual smoke from the crackers generally pollutes the sky so much that the lights would not be visible. Thanks to God this year, This Deepawali, there was rain and that washed any pollution and smoke in the sky, making the skyline really beautiful. compared to last year though, the lighting seemed less, may be the recession to blame. even the Govt. took austerity measures it looks, that it did light the vidhan sabha bhawan as it use to do, yet it was a beautiful sight to watch. the best lighting in my view was of the Genpact building. Gaurav towers did spend lot of money but it lacked the simplicity and boldness that the Genpact building exhibited. but then each building has its speciality which is suitable for a speciality lighting. the lighting of Gaurav towers is best enjoye...
